Amanda Seddon Biography

Amanda was born in the small country town of Bathurst. Born the third child of four to a single mother, Amanda spent her childhood exploring the council dumping grounds that backed her families small housing commission home. Given independence at a very young age, Amanda would explore the neighbourhood bare foot from dawn to dusk with her baby brother in tow, gathering found objects to build cubbies in the mounds of dirt, wood and concrete slab piles that towered over knee high creeks that meandered behind her street.

One could suggest that Amanda still carries on this childhood whimsy in her current art practice where she makes and collects found objects and juxtaposes them into created installation environments.

Amanda completed her schooling and moved to Sydney, finally completing her BFA with first class honours and her MFA, majoring in painting at the National art school. During her MFA practice, Amanda returned to a heterogeneous practice, confirming her independence and faith in her lifetime of learned abilities where she marries together painting, sculpture, digital media and installation to create immersive domestic environments.

Amanda has been awarded many student prizes and scholarships during her 6 years at the National art school including the first Dobell student drawing prize 2011 for her multi - media installation work The drawing room, and has taken part in many coveted art prizes such as the Sulman and Mortimore art prizes during the same period of time. Currently Amanda is developing her emerging professional practice by opening  new Pop-up artists studios and galleries in which to create and showcase her work.
