Monachopsis soft sculpture prototype #2
The biomorphic sculptures are meant to mirror the growth of that subtle feeling of not belonging into a more severe feeling of paranoia or psychosis. Therefore the plant morphs should mirror the growth stages of any normal plant form.
In introducing the idea of a subtle nagging insecurity that develops into something greater, I can't help but think of peoples reactions to the idea of paranoia. It is beyond an uncomfortable reaction, resulting in a physical want to distance yourself from an unreasonable or delusional person...... that's when dealing with these things in their full blown form.
i find human reactions to each other interesting, and it is actually these actions of separating ourselves from others that can actually act as a commonality. "What's wrong with me is what's wrong with you".....or ..."There's something about that person that I don't like about myself..."
We consider things in terms of non-reality.... constructions of sorts.... personal mythologies, as I like to see it. Constructing ones own reality is just that,... a construction. Although we don't often see things in these terms. This is always an underlying theme of my work.
Begining construction of the next piece, it had to be a smaller version- a growth stage of the parent plant, or an off spring..... referring back to previous sketches for the parent plant, I liked the ideas of the phalange top but wanted to make it the main form of the morph.
I also had experience now in joining the plastics and the problems with seams tearing and splitting, so I cut and sewed the phalanges and sewed them onto the sheath that would go over the metal armature and then stuffed.
The leaves were finally wired onto the base and after 1000 wire cuts to my hands and arms later.....
